My clothes not for size zero women: Manish Malhotra

Bollywood’s favourite designer Manish Malhotra says the fad of size zero figure is gone and his clothes are for women who are fit. Ace designer Manish Malhotra says that his designs are not for women who are size zero. He believes the size zero concept is passe, and that women concentrate more on fitness nowadays. "Size zero is passe. Women are fit today. Look at the actresses! Even with children, they look amazing. But my clothes are not for size zero women," Malhotra told in an interview. He has designed costumes for a plethora of actresses like Kajol, Karisma Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra.

His designs are extremely glamorous, but Malhotra stresses on the wearability of his clothes in a big way. "That's how I see clothes. I don't understand making clothes for an audience where people will just see clothes and not imagine wearing them. I think something completes its journey of being beautiful when one wants to buy and wear it," he said. As cinema completes its 100 golden years this year, the designer admits that costumes in films have evolved and are moving towards a more realistic domain now. "Cinema has evolved...black and white to the fabulous 1960s, fun 1970s and bad 1980s. I think today movies are real, not just glamorous.

I guess it is good. Clothes (in films) are far more real now," he said. For now, Manish Malhotra has associated himself with Colgate's new product, Colgate Visible White. He has designed an entire line inspired from Colgate colours - red and white. "It (the campaign) is a young interpretation. It gave me a thought of red in summer. Red is considered bridal wear, but today's women are out there. They are being themselves and red signifies that," he said. The designer feels that it is important to have basic hygiene to remain stylish. "It is great that toothpaste is a part of style regime. Everything starts from a basic regime. You can't be stylish only by wearing something nice," he said.
