A 12 crore 'Aashiqui 2' has managed to withstand the tirade of 100 times more costly 'Iron Man 3' on the first day of its release. Trade sources insists that sequel to 1993 hit starring newcomers Aditya Roy Kapur and Shradha Kapoor is likely to collect at least Rs 5 cr on the first day of its release and 'Iron Man 3' to touch Rs 7.25 cr on the first day of release. Of two different genre and films from different worlds both opened well.

Though Iron Man 3 took a better start trade pundits insists that Aashiqui 2 witnessed a growth in business with each passing show. Trade analyst Suniel Wadhwa said,"Aashiqui 2 on its opening day catapulted with 4.5-5 cr net at the box office. It was released in 1100 screens. It is a very good start for a film that has newcomers like Aditya Roy Kapur and Shradha Kapoor."

Iron Man 3 was released in four regional languages across 1100 screens. Wadhwa said, "Iron Man 3's opening day collection based on early estimates seems to be in the range of 7.25 cr net. Going by the trend, the weekend box office collection will be 23-24cr and the first weekend collection of Aashiqui 2 will be around 15 cr." Last week's release Ek Thi Daayan's first week collection is Rs 25.8cr.
