Last heard, the battle over the remake of the 1973 film Zanjeer had cleared up with the Mumbai High Court giving producer Amit Mehra a green signal. However, now we hear that the Supreme Court has issued a stay order on the film's release. Apparently, the SC has ordered the arbitrator to complete the arbitration proceedings expeditiously and positively within the next six weeks.
This order comes in the wake of Amit's brothers, Sumeet and Puneet, approaching it against the HC order. For those who are unaware, Mehra's remake had run into trouble when his brothers Sumeet and Puneet terminated the contract that gave him the remake rights in the first place citing non-payment of dues. The Zanjeer remake which features Ram Charan, Priyanka Chopra, Sanjay Dutt, Sri Hari, Prakash Raj and Mahie Gill was slated for release this June.
