Akshay Kumar's next film on Dada Kondke

Based on the biography by Anita Padhye, the film is about the actor who ruled Marathi cinema in the 70s Akshay Kumar and Ashwini Yardi's next is a film on Dada Kondke, the actor who captured the imagination of Marathi cinema goers in the late 70s and 80s with films that were loved and criticised for their excessive double entendre and sexual innuendo.

The duo has bought the rights of Kondke's biography titled Ekta Jeev, authored by Anita Padhye. While Akshay and Ashwini were unavailable for comment, Padhye confirmed the development and said: "The film will be based on my book, which was written in 1999 on the basis of my interactions with Kondke, recorded in 80 audio cassettes of 90 minutes each."

Kondke may have been the bumbling simpleton in striped shorts in most of his films - Pandu Hawaldar, Ram Ram Gangaram, Andheri Raat Mein Diya Tere Haath Mein (Hindi) - with his one-liners and comic gestures, but in real life, he wasn't a happy man. "It's an interesting idea to make a film on such a man," pointed out a source, adding, "It's a matter of time before Akshay and Ashwini make an official announcement."
