The superstar got a taste of Patna on Wednesday, while promoting his forthcoming Prakash Jha film Aarakshan in the city Amitabh Bachchan is coming to town. The buzz started in Patna a month back. And by the time he actually landed in the city, 15 years after his last visit, the excitement had reached a fever pitch. By Wednesday morning, everyone in town knew about their superstar's detailed itinerary, thanks to a Hindi newspaper. Security was tightened. And yet, the fans did not budge from their respective posts along the road to be traversed by their favourite star. And while security issues were a big cause for concern to the cops, the real issue was 'What does one feed the Big B for dinner?'
Amitabh Bachchan who was all set to promote his film Aarakshan along with director Prakash Jha and co-actor Manoj Bajpayee in the city, was also scheduled to have dinner with an old friend. And so, his wife Jaya Bachchan was approached. "Make it simple. And don't fuss," instructed Mrs Big B. But then again, how does one not fuss over Amitabh Bachchan?
So simple it was - litti chokha, the Bihari speciality, three types of roti, A hyderbadi baingan dish and lots of greens. "Patna is looking so much brighter than when I was here the last time," commented Mr Bachchan as arrived for dinner under Z-class security. The roads were full of fans waiting to catch a glimpse of the man they all love and respect. "Amitji kab aayenge?" the crowd kept asking. And at last, the Big B went out to greet his fans with a 'namaste' from the terrace a la Sarkar style.
"Must wave to them or they will get upset," said the actor and stepped on to the terrace giving rise to a giant human wave of appreciation below. The security worried about him. Director Prakash Jha too was anxious about his health. "He hasn't slept since 4 am and he will return to my home (Mr Bachchan was staying over at Jha's place for the night before catching the flight out on Thursday morning) and he will go back and blog, no matter what time it is.
He was quite willing to stay overnight. His only pre-condition was there should be an internet connection in his room," revealed the filmmaker. The big B himself perhaps was the least bothered. "Just relax.I'll ask if I need anything," he said. Earlier in the day, the Patna press got a taste of Big B's acerbic tongue. Someone asked the star why Amar Singh had been claiming that the Bachchan family had betrayed him.
And though director Prakash Jha and Manoj Bajpai squirmed uncomfortably on hearing that, Big B without batting an eyelid replied, "I haven't heard him(Amar Singh) say any such thing. As far as I'm concerned he's still a family friend." And on being asked when Aishwarya was expecting to deliver the baby, Big B said keeping a poker face, "I wouldn't know I am not the one who is pregnant." The Big B also visited the chief minister Nitish Kumar. And the city suffered a traffic jam. After all it was the Big B's day out in Patna.
