Composer Anu Malik has been going all over town claiming that he is the sole conceiver of the song, 'Babli badmaash', in Sanjay Gupta's upcoming film, Shootout At Wadala. He also told anyone who would listen that he had composed the song keeping Priyanka Chopra in mind. This has irked lyricist Kumaar Rakesh, the man who wrote the number. "When we were jamming, Anuji happened to utter the word Babli. I liked it and changed the song to 'Babli badmaash'.
When we sit together, an idea can come from anywhere. But he went public and said that he had written the song. This is something that I disapprove of," says Kumaar. Giving a rare insight into the making of the song, he reveals that it was initially supposed to be 'Banda tayar hai', but was later changed to 'Banda badmaash hai'. "Sanjay sir wanted a female version, so the lyrics needed to be changed. At that time, I didn't know whom the song would feature," says Kumaar. When contacted, Anu Malik says, "Kumaar has written the full song. I am just the composer."
