HC denies stay on release of Don 2Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar and Shahrukh Khan can breathe a sigh of relief, the reason being the apparent High Court denial of the legal suit alleging infringement of copyright that was filed against the makers of Don 2.

The suit, filed by Nariman Films and the Irani family (the makers of original 1978 film Don), starring Amitabh Bachchan, had alleged that the new Don 2 had violated the copyrights by adopting the Don's signature tune, songs of the original Don and also copying its script, characters and music without any prior intimation, further stating that the rights of the said script were given only for the remake and not for the sequel.

However, Justice S. F. Vajifdar, of the Bombay High Court denied the stay on the release of the film, citing the absence of theatre owners at the hearing and also taking into consideration the release dates of the film (December 21 overseas and December 23 in India), for which advance booking is already underway.

On the other hand, the complainants had also filed for damages to the tune of Rs. 200 crore, the court is yet to decide on the said matter while ordering the makers of Don 2 to maintain and preserve all the accounts relating to the film till the matter was finally disposed of.
